In 2019 the pilot of the Da Vinci Project took place, and four projects in collaboration with Utrecht University, AkzoNobel and BASF were assigned to teams of Bachelor’s students. Hereby the description of one of the projects in collaboration with Utrecht University, focused on plastic recycling in the Utrecht University campus.
Utrecht University – Plastic recycling on campus
The University of Utrecht campus suffers from a plastic waste problem due to improper plastic recycling. A preliminary analysis revealed that the problem is strictly connected with the everyday habit and motivation of university students, staff and visitors. Our goal is therefore to motivate people on campus to make a consistent change in their behavior of sorting plastic, hence allowing a proper recycle. We intend to do so creating awareness about plastic use and how to sort it properly in the waste bin. The prototype we created for the project respects the general regulations and guidelines of the campus, and it is original and of easy use.
